Hi folks,
Im trying to install some exercise files from an Excel Manual book which is
from 1997. The files came in a floppy disk and it needs to use the Dos
command in windows XP.
I write: A:\> setup C: and the next comand is again A:\>.
Is it possible to to transfer these files to Windows XP? It was straight
forward to install in Windows 98SE with this command :
C:\windows>a: setup C:
Do you see the difference of this command string compared to the first one you
typed? Possibly a typo?
Have you tried at a prompt:
a:\ and press Enter
setup.exe and press Enter
Anyhoo, is there a reason you can't run the install from the floppy without
the use of DOS? If not:
Put the floppy in the drive.
Click Start > Run, type in: a:\setup.exe and press Enter.
Or:
Put the floppy in the drive.
Click Start > Run.
Click the Browse button and navigate to the setup file on the floppy.
Select it and Ok your way out to begin installing.
Or:
Create a folder on the desktop or in Explorer.
Open Explorer and expand the tree if needed to the folder you created.
Click on the A: drive so the contents show in the right pane.
Click once in the right pane anywhere.
Press ctrl+a to select all.
Press ctrl+c to copy all selected hilit files.
Click on the Folder you created so the right pane shows the contents which
aren't there yet and is empty.
Click once in the right pane and press ctrl+v to paste the copied files from the
clipboard into the folder, or simply right click once in the right pane and
click Paste in the popup menu.
Double click the setup.exe to start the install.
If the app has trouble installing see if this helps:
Right click the setup.exe.
Click Properties > Compatibility tab.
Under Compatability Mode put a check in "Run This......" check box.
Select the last OS it worked on from the Compatibility dropdown box.
Click Apply > Ok.
Try the install again.
