Install Desktop QFE Installer on target?

Eberhard Schefold

I just downloaded the Desktop QFE Installer component from the OEM secure
site.

Thank you, MS guys, for making this component available, this helps us a
lot!

Now, at the risk of sounding greedy: Is there any chance to deploy the
component on a target device, i.e. without going through Target Designer?
It may seem unreasonable, but we have customers who have made substantial
alterations to their systems which they'd lose with an entire new image.

If the device in the field doesn't already have those dependencies within
the component, then it's too late. Look at the component dependencies of the
desktop installer component and compare them to the configuration you
originally built. If they're already satisfied, then the configuration meets
the minimum requirements to take advantage of the QFE installers and nothing
more is needed to launch those installers on the device.

Hello Andy,

thanks for the prompt reply. Now I think I get it -- the Desktop
Installer component consists merely of a set of dependencies. Cool. I'll
have to check more thoroughly, but I think we already have the necessary
components, which would be *excellent* news for us.

Thanks again, you've helped me a lot.

Andy,

For those of us in the XPe community without access to the "Desktop
QFE Installer component from the OEM secure site", it would be really
helpful just for planning (and expectation management) purposes to see
the list of dependencies required. Are they published anywhere?

Thank you, Roy
