Install a windows 2000 advanced server on a usb external hard drive.

I have windows xp on my primary hard drive. I just bought
a maxtor 3000ls external hard drive so I can install
windows 2000 advance server o/s that has a 120 daylimit
on use. For some reason I am having trouble. I mean the
computer recognize the external hard drive as F: but i
can not install windows 2000 on it. I need it for study
purposes. Can you please give me advice on this
situation. Thank you
