inserting subtotals in excel file

It takes hours to insert subtotals, system repeats many times calculating 1%
- 100%. What can I do to speed up this process.
 
Not sure I understand the problem, can you elaborate on the type of data and
what is being subtotaled? Have you tried 'Data'....'Subtotals'?
