Inserting picture from file problem

Am using FP 2000 and now when I insert a picture from a file outside of my
web it just appears as an icon in normal view instead of appearing as
usual.I can only see the picture in preview mode and if I save the page the
picture does not save in the web itself as it used to.How can I get this to
work normally again ?.

Still doesn´t work unfortunately,very strange.No time to continue with this

Found the problem .The pictures I have been trying to insert have a # within
their names (digital camera pic´s) and this seems to upset frontpage.Works
fine if I delete this sign from the name first before inserting the
pic.Thanks though for the advice its better to import the photo than insert
it,didn't think the quality would be affected by doing it that way but must
check that out.Thanks to all who replied to me

It doesn't upset FrontPage. It is an illegal URL character (unless you're
using it in a Query String as a bookmark. Other illegal URL characters
include spaces, "<", ">", "%", and double quotes.
