Inserting images in Access forms

As with Tom Gettys (May 23rd 2005) when I try to insert an image in a form
field I get a message saying there is a problem with the OLE server, to try
restarting it outside Access, or that the file may not be accessible.
Before we upgraded to Windows 2000, it all worked fine using '98!!!
I don't have a clue what the error message is meant to signify, or even if
it's an accurate fault message.
I have to Ctr-Z to be able to carry on using the database, and even then I
get repeated messages about the object field being empty, and I have to shut
Access down.
What do I do?
I have old records with pictures, but can't add any new ones.
