inserting a movie flash file

Can someone please tell me if I can insert a .swf file into powerpoint for
a macroflash or do I have to change the formatt of the file? If so what
format do I change it to?

the swf will work. Here's a good article on the process:

In addition Flash/.swf files can be embedded into the presentation.

Also note that flash movies continue to play after the slide has been
viewed, so if you return to the slide the movie will not begin playing at the
beginning.

The free FLASHBACK addin will 'rewind' a flash movie after it has been
played (but must be installed on viewing computer to work).
