Insert Word File

D

Dennis Allen

Hi. Hoping someone here could help.

So far, the cleanest way I found to import a Word97 document into a html
file is to use the FrontPage Insert->file. I still see a couple of
annoyances. Rather, http://validator.w3.org/ finds a few things One,
duplicate bookmarks, as in: <a name="_toc7505"></a><a
name="_toc9760">header</a>

The biggest annoyance is when bold or italic doesn't stay within the
paragraph, as in:

<p><b>hi there</p></b>

I have FrontPage 2000 v4.0.2.3821. Question. Is there a more w3.org
compliant version of FrontPage? A fix or improved add-on for the
insert->file option?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...Dennis

Copy and paste the Word file into Notepad and then copy and paste to
Frontpage. Some will say Paste Special, but I have never actually tried it.

But with notepad you lose the table of contents, bold, italic, and
hyperlinks. I think I tried file->open and paste special, but I get too
much formating. Almost every character is a special microsoft
font...Dennis

It has also been recommend to just drag the document into a current open page in FP.

Tried it. Works just like the insert->file. The duplicate bookmarks, I
can handle. I still wish there was a solution to those badly wrapped
bold/italic markers. Harder to fix...Dennis

The best solution would be to type the text directly into the page in FP, and not use Word to begin
with or if you need to keep the Word formatting, convert the document to a PDF file.

I copy word files all the time to FP. I open the document in word --
highlight the whole thing <alt> <a> -- then copy <alt> <c> -- then open a
single box table (to contain the document in the area I want) and paste <alt>
<v> -- I usually have to do some simple clean up of double lines, but it has
always worked for me.

On my Word XP copy, I don't see a <alt><a> or <alt><c>. I'll highlight
my text, <ctrl><c>, then try a <ctrl><v> in FrontPage, normal tab. When
I do, however, I get lots of formatting code like:: <p
class="MsoPlainText"><span
style="font-size:12.0pt;mso-bidi-font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Courier">

I see that. Using the insert->file (type word) is still the simpliest
solution. I just wish there was a way to report and fix that
overlapping marker bug. A Service Release or an add-on fix would be
nice...Dennis
