Insert Picture

In Excel 2003, I have a form to which I Insert a Picture from a File.
The picture is a TIF (it's a scanned signature). When the picture is
inserted, its background is white/opaque. If I select a transparent
color (white) from the toolbar, the background disappears, and the grid
and form lines are visible underneath the signature.

The question is, how can I modify the TIF drawing such that the
background is transparent when inserted such that I do not have to go
through the extra steps each time? I hoped that I could select the
picture, which Excel modifies on insertion, and do a File | Save As, but
that function is not available. What is the native format of the picture
in Excel after it is inserted?

Hopefully this question makes sense!

Excel won't save the *.TIF file

You must edit that in your favorite graphics application to the transparent
background.

OR...........record a macro while you Insert the picture then modify.

Assign that macro to a button or shortcut key combo.

The question is a little more complicated than that. Even though the
picture is imported in TIF format, it appears that Excel internally
converts it to some other format. If I knew what format it was
expecting, I could probably do the conversion externally. I seem to
recall that the TIF format does not allow transparency, but that
recollection could be wrong. PNG and GIF do have transparency, so maybe
Excel is converting to one of those.
