Insert file with icon into an existing document

I can't figure out how to insert a file into another document without either
dumping the contents into the document or a hyperlink. I'm trying to insert
the file like you would an e-mail, as an attachement.

Click Insert > Object, and choose the Create from File tab. Browse to the
file you want to insert. Check the box "Display as icon" but don't check
"Link to file". Click OK.
