Does anyone know of a tool for Win XP that can insert a date/time stamp
into any application (like a right click utility or something).

I've had a look on Google but can't find a generic one. There must be
one somewhere!

Many thanks

This function is built into Notepad. Press F5 for the time stamp. Great for
keeping a time log.

Just browsing thru and not quite sure of exactly what you are after and what
you mean by 'for any application'. However, it's fairly straightforward to,
for example,
write a date macro in an MS Office ap (Word, Excel,...) and put an icon for
it on one of the toolbars. Then put the cursor at the place where you want to
insert the date and click the icon. That should do it.

Also, I think, in a similar manner as with the Notepad "Log" entry (but not
quite), you could cause a date to be inserted automatically in Word, for
instance, whenever you open a new (or even an old) document. Check out help
on Macros and VizBasic in Word. There's also tons of it on the net.

There is a freeware porgram called MacroMaker that will do what you want.
Record a new macro, under "Command Type" choose "Keyboard" > Send Date >
Space > Send Time. Google for it.
