Insert blank cd, but cd is in

I have tried making an audio cd from files on my computer, i get the list I want, click burn, then my computer tells me to insert a blank cd when the cd is already in the drive. I have tried three different burning programs:
RecordNow! (Came with the computer)
Nero Burning Rom (The most recent version)
and even windows media player
I have also tried 3 different CDs and none of them work so I am assuming that it has to do with my cd-rom drive even though this is a brand new computer. Do I need to get drivers or what is the deal? I haven't found anyone else with the same error.
 
Probably a dumb question, but is your CD player a Read-Write player ?

Squire, from reading some of the questions (and some of the answers)
on this board, you question is not so dumb at all. LOL
 
fixed the problem, ran some anti-virus programs and reinstalled the burning programs, don't know what fixed it but now it's fixed, appreciate the replies.
