You could Add the "Follow Up Flag" column and then turn on
"Allow In Cell Editing" on the view. Then you could just click in
the "Follow Up Flag" field and type your comment.
- Right-Click the Header field (Where is has From, Subject, Received,
etc.)
- Select "Field Chooser"
- Find "Follow Up Flag" field by selecting ALL MAIL fields,
then scroll down
- Drag and drop the "Follow Up Flag" field onto the header bar where
you want to see it.
- Close the Field Chooser Dialogue box.
Now to fix your view so you can edit the new added field without
opening the email.
- Select the VIEW menu
- Select ARRANGE BY
- Select CURRENT VIEW
- Select DEFINE VIEWS...
- Click the MODIFY... button
- Click the OTHER SETTINGS... button
- Turn on the check mark next to "ALLOW IN-CELL EDITING"
- Click the OK button
- Click the OK button to close the "Customize View: Messages" window.
- Click the APPLY VIEW button on the "Custom View Organizer"
window.
Now just click in the "Follow Up Flag" column next to one of your
emails and type.

I'm using Outlook 2007 and i was wondering if there was a way to comment on
each email (sent and recived). Then i can see without opening it why i
have/havent replied to the email.
