using win 98se, dell xpst-450 desktop, 6 yrs old. pentIII, 450mhz, 384 ram,
13 gig drive, I.E. 6.0.

general inquiry:
i see several sites listed in my restricted sites list in ie's
properties>security>restricted sites>sites list. i don't know how they got
there. remnants of spyware & viruses, maybe. some or maybe all i do not
want.

if a site is listed there, does it mean it will be allowed? or blocked?,

& if removed, would site still be accessable at a later time?

most look like searches, adult material, advertising, garbage, etc.

can i or should i remove them all?

here are some examples of what's listed:

cool-search.netfartpost.com
nettracker.jps.ru
travel.picture-posters.com
you-search.com.ru
dialer.cbj.net
search.scourweb.net
fastmetasearch.com

any input greatly appreciated! as always!

thank you, len kiesling

They'll still be allowed but they'll be restricted to the settings for that
zone. Open IE, click on tools, options, and the security tab. If you then
highlight the zone in question and click customize you'll see what
restrictions have been placed on those sites. It might be a good idea to
reset that zone to default and to remove the sites that are listed in there
now. Then again, if they're "bad" sites you can just leave them there with
no ill effects assuming the malware hasn't actually changed the settings for
that zone which is why I recommend resetting it to the default.

thank you for reply! i now understand that sites listed will be subject to
settings listed in restricted sites, & not blocked.

i'm wondering if spywareblaster, adaware or spybot would put them there.

thanks again, len kiesling

SpywareBlaster probably put them there as well as the immunization process
of SpyBot S&D.
