Inputting Multiple Drop Down Items

Hi,

I have a list of about 100 items I need to put in a drop down box. This is
taking me for ever as the descriptions are quite long and the terminology is
medical based so spelling (for me!) is an issue aswell. I have the list in
an Excel doc (with correct spellings) and I was wondering if I can 'import'
the Excel list into drop down items without having to type each one. Is this
possible or is there another (easy) way of entering multiple items in one go?

Thanks in advance.

If we are talking about dropdown boxes in forms, they will only hold 25
entries.

If we knew more about what the end result is supposed to achieve there may
be a better way to achieve it. The Word version would be useful.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the swift reply.

I'm using Word2003. Ah, limited to 25 maybe an issue for me - I don't
suppose there is a way to increase this number?

I basically just have a long list of departments which I want the end user
to select from (in a dropdown box). I'm currently just typing them
individually into the "Drop-down item:" and then click 'Add'. I haven't got
upto the 25th one yet - I stopped after 10 when I realised it was going to
take me a long time to do all 100. Hence why I haven't realised it is
limited to 25.

People in my organisation call different departments different things. For
example 'AL1' is now called 'Private Patients' (the name changed over 2 years
ago) but people still call it AL1 (and write it in the relevant Word doc) -
which confuses some (new) people as they only know it as Private Patients.
They look for AL1 on the our HR system and can't find it (because it's called
Private Patients).

When the user completes the word doc I want the ability for them to only
select from the dropdown list - therefore only allowing them to select the
correct name for each department.

Is there perhaps an easier way of achieveing this?

Thanks again,

AW

You can work around the limit, but the limit itself is fixed. See
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Linked_DropDown_Fields.htm
and http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/FormField_UserForm_ListBox.htm
You can copy a column containing names from your spreadsheet to the vba
editor and it will put each entry on a new line, which will cut down on
typing errors.
For the AL1 issue you could create an autocorrect entry, which will work in
a form field to replace AL1 with
Private Patients

Thanks for the tips and links Graham, much appreciated.

We want people to call the departments by their correct name so the
auto-correct wont be used in this instance, although I can think of others
instances where I can use it.

Many thanks for you help and swift replies.
