Initialising a HD inquiry

Hi,

I recently recorded some stuff in a studio using Pro Tools on a Mac and
I was told that he could format my HD drive and transfer my audio files
to it in a way that the PC could read it.

It is an external Firewire box and I have just re-attached it to XP and
it sees the drive but wants to inilialise it so it can read the data.

I think that is to format it, in which case I lose all my stuff.

Is that correct?

How can I get my data read on XP.

Any help.

Thanks

In my experience "initialize" is not the same as "format". XP had to write
something to the disk (my assumption) so that the file system can be
properly viewed. This does not usually cause any problem with the data.
HOWEVER, I have not done this with a previous MAC disk so can not be 100%
sure. It appears that XP is at least detecting the disk ( a good sign) but
would not be able to say even after being "initialized" that XP can read it.

Without the MAC connection (and any overlay SW) I would say go ahead an
initialize it. However, under your circumstances?

FWIW,
Len

Hi,

I think the man have formated the ext Hdd in FAT32 format that both Mac and
PC can write and read. But you need to check first before initialize the
drive.

Hi,

I have MacOpener now on which supposedly allows me to see the Mac OS
drive but still no go, but still trying.
