Infection disappeared mysteriously - I hope

Just got the latest Norton protection for my home computer and it found a
bunch of spyware and viruses. There was one it couldn't eliminate, called
Backdoor.Lixy with a couple of files, Rlid.exe and Serve.exh. After a reboot
of the machine and a complete scan, everything shows up clear. My
question is, if this particular virus shows up again, or for that matter any
listed one, Norton should catch it in the act of trying to install itself,
shouldn't
it?

I'd search the hard drive and registry for occurences of that filename...
