inducing the Password change prompt

I look after a small site of financial planners running Windows 2000 Server
and mostly XP Pro workstations. The site security policy requires users to
change passwords every 40 days.
One user runs a workstation that has a download/update application for their
stock portfolio management systems. This workstation is left switched on and
logged in almost all of the time.
My problem is that every 40 days the user gets application failures because
the password has expired, however she was never prompted to change the
password because she almost never loggs in/out.

Is there a way of periodically forcing the password expiry check and having
the password change prompt come up without the user needing to log out/in?

thanks,

Are you the admin, with rights and do you have a console? if so why not just
completely turn off... user must change password?
