Indexing Services Catalog displays no: Size, Status of Total Docs

I have a catalog running which is queried bij an ASP page. The catalog / ASP page work fine for about 1 or 2 weeks.

After this time period I get calls from users complaining that the search feature on the website no longer works.
When I check the catalog details. Catalog size, status, total docs, etc. are no longer displayed. They are all empty. The catalog name and location are still shown.
No error is displayed in the detail window or in the event logs.
Stopping and restarting the entire indexing services gets everything up and running again.
After the 1 or 2 week period expires, the problem returns.

Can anyone help me with this??

Some details...
Windows 2000 server
IIS 5.0
Total number of documents to be indexed: about 10,000. (Mostly *.HTML, some office documents as well)
The webserver is frequently viewed.. The search feature is used occasionally.

It looks like you are experiencing some frequent corruption of the Indexing
Service's catalog.
Here are some tips to prevent corruption:

1. Go to the anti-virus software properties and exclude the path to this
catalog.wci folder.
2. When you are going to backup the server, stop the Indexing service
before
backing up, and re-start it after backing up. Make sure not to back up the
catalog.wci folder.
3. Periodically restart the Indexing Service, this will rebuild the catalog
