Hi,
A number of our users have installed and been using Google Desktop Search
(GDS) on their workstations, however after reading recent security articles,
we have decided to remove GDS from all workstations, and make it strict
policy that it's not allowed on company workstations.
But now those users who had installed it, are asking for an alternative. I
have suggested using the built in XP 'start > search > for files & folders'
feature, however some users are saying it's not as powerful as GDS. Is there
a way to improve the built in search capabilities? Can you get it to search
inside PDFs and things? I was hoping there would be a power toy available,
but apparently not. Also can it be configured via Group Policy? I have
enabled indexing service via GP, but I would like to be able to setup
specific network drives to catalogue.
If anyone has any suggestions or advice on searching/indexing, then please
let me know.
Regards
Ben
