Indexing Service and EFS...

Hi,

I am using EFS for a while on my system and external disk. These last weeks
I spent a lot of time investigating the Indexing Service....

What I feared took place: the Indexing Service cannot handle encrypted file
(which is "good" since the system account does not have my private key...).
I saw that running the Indexing Service under another profile does not work
correctly...Is there a way to resolve this?

Is there a way to use both EFS and Indexing Service ?

That is a *real* pitty.

What about Vista? I noticed that the "Indexing Service" does not exist
anymore in Vista.
My understanding is that this service has been replaced by a feature called
"Windows Search Engine".
Can you confirm that "Indexing Service" won't exist in Vista anymore?

I cannot confirm whether Indexing Service exists under Vista (on the
road without my Vista VM), but I can confirm that you will not be able
to index EFS encrypted data. It is a security risk that a service could
open all files on the disk

thanks for the time you take for this thread.

I am not really sure that security was driving this design...

Concerning Vista and the availibility of Indexing Service...I guess that
Vista will need to support Indexing Service....since many verticals (like
SharePoint) are using this service.

Do you have more information about "Windows Search Engine"? ....it really
looks like Indexing Service...
