But itr will only slow down when *you* want to do something. Why do you
want to slow *yourself* down?

An idle PC will index just as fast whatever the priority of the service, but
maybe you could disable the defragging to make things faster. Perhaps you
are misunderstanding how priorities work.

I do not know the answer, but I am sure I could find out very easily. I
just don't think there is any point.

SearchIndexer.exe
that executable is not in the running processes list. and trying to run
it by clicking on it...still doesn't show up in processes. i know the
hard drive is currently being indexed, because an hour or so after i
requested a rebuild, files are finally showing up when i do searches.

Hi David,

You may need to click on the 'Show processes from all users' button on the
bottom left in Task Manager.

super! yup, that was the issue. thanks much! i set it to high to get
the drive reindexed faster. i'll of course set it back to low later on.

Dave,

I saw your other post and this one, and I would just disable the Index.
You will get better results with the non-indexed search and you will
not have the index always running in the background making your hard
drive run like crazy and possibly slowing Vista down some. See "Method
One" for how to disable it.

question: if i disable indexing, and i go to the upper right corner of
explorer and type in search criteria, will explorer actually search? as
it stands now, that box is useless for non indexed files. therefore i'm
forced to jumping thru hoops to run a search that finds the files that
have yet to be indexed.
