Index page deconnected from navigation

The index page of my site has lost its banner, top, and
left navigation tabs. In their place it says "[Add this
page to the Navigation view to display hyperlinks here],
or [Add this page to the navigation structure to display a
page banner here].

When I go to Navigation view, it looks OK.

But I cannot access the child pages from the index page.

Can anyone help?

Does it have the home icon in it in nav view?
If not select it in Folder List and select Set as home page
- make sure the file name is that required by your online server

Thanks, Stefan,
That's the funny thing. It does show up in nav view, and
when I selected it as the home page, it said it already is
the home page. On the server it works OK. I'ts just on my
computer that the child buttons and banner are missing.

Any other possible ideas?
