Index/Match with text-looking numbers

Or is it number-looking text? Here's the issue, I have some IDs that I needto match on. They are ID numbers, mostly formatted as text - numbers like 010630019, GM5250000, and 295770047. So, the data needs to be formatted as text in both columns, but when copying/importing the data, Excel doesn't always format the columns consistently. Then, when I use an Index/Match, the text version of 295770047 won't match the number version of 295770047. Any tips for getting around this?

Specify 'Text' format during import. For copy/paste you can format the
cell as Text and Paste Values.
