Hi,
As far as I understand it, even though you might think your machine is clean
it is not because browsing habits etc etc are kept in index.dat files,
Correct? I am using a piece of software that shows the contents of the
index.dat files and then allows you to generate a batch file that can be run
at boot that will eliminate the contents of the index file. Now does this
mean that it is totally unrecoverable or are the contents hidden somewhere
else?

It may be possible for someone to recover any deleted file from your hard
drive.

[[Restore files which are deleted from the recycle bin or deleted while
holding down the Shift key by mistake.
Conversely, this program has another function that makes it almost
impossible to restore all deleted files.
You can use it after deletion of confidential documents, embarrassing files
and so on.]]
