However, you can use other 3rd party tools with similar functionality but allowing to save the output in .reg format. Some of the
tools are not free, though (e.g., RegSnap).
There has been a discussion in this NG on the topic. You may search the archive for RegSnap entries.
You haven't mentioned the tool you finally used to get a .reg file. I assume
it is RegSnap.
Unfortunately, RegSnap generates "RegEdit 4" compatible file. So, you will
need to fix this manually (not a big deal, though).
Open the result .reg file with notepad and change its header to "Windows
Registry Editor Version 5.00". Save and try to import it in CD again.
CD does not eat comments within the .reg file being imported. Remove them
manually.
Another problem, IIRC, that a result .reg file from RegSnap may content
fields like:
@=
which CD cannot understand. Review the .reg file and remove those.
Be also aware about the known CD bug with losing spaces in registry pahs
while importing .reg files. Very annoying bug that you have to watch for and
can only fix manually in the result .sld file (with notepad again or within
the CD).
