Incorrect network status

I am experiencing a strange issue I hope someone can help with. This
morning I replaced my Linksys 802.11b router that died with a new
Linksys 802.11g (WRT54GS). Everything appears to be working fine and
all of my devices can access the Internet. I have to wireless devices,
one with a hard coded IP Address and one set to use DHCP. The issue is
with the wireless laptop running Windows XP SP2 and DHCP. When it
boots it connectos to the router, obtains the IP Address, and I can
connect to the Net. Life is good except in the "Choose a wireless
network" window of XP it lists my SSID and states "Disconnected".
However the description underneath says I am connected. When I select
the my network from the list the "connect" button at the bottom of the
screen changes to "disconnect".

Everything works except when I execute "ipconfig /release" and
"ipconfig /renew" from the DOS prompt I get an error message stating an
address cannot be obtained from media that is disconnected. If I
reboot the computer it obtains the address and all is well but still
says disconnected. Just curious is anyone has seen this and if I did
something stupid. I kept the same SSID on the router and generated a
new WEP key. I entered the WEP key on both devices.

Does anyone know why XP displays the Disconnected message?

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read my post. After the laptop
sat connected to the network for a couple of hours the status of my
network is now displaying "Connected". Before posting I rebooted the
laptop serveral times and refreshed the list of available networks
several times but it still displayed the incorrect status.

I will reboot the laptop again and try and reproduce the problem. If I
can I will post again but for now everything appears to be working as
expected. Thanks again.

Well after simply hibernating the laptop and restarting it the status
of the Wireless network is now "Disconnected" but obviously I can
connect to the Net. As before when I select my SSID from the list the
button changes to "disconnect". I'll do a little more research on-line
but since nothing appears to be failing I may file this under
nuisances.
