Incessant disk activity

Hi

P4 3GHz, 1Gb RAM, WD 200Gb HDD, Win2000 Pro. I am experiencing continual
access of the hard disk by the operating system, even when idle (possibly is
worse when online). I have disabled indexing on all drives, uninstalled all
suspect software, including AntiVirus software and ZoneAlarm, checked memory
for resident spyware (none), and switched off all Services that Win2000 will
allow, yet still I have small HDD seeks occurring typically
every 3 seconds. Since I do not have a quiet HDD & case this is extremely
annoying. I have heard that Win2000 has a reputation as a 'disk thrasher'.
Is this phenomenon normal for Win2000?

Thankyou to anyone who can advise.

What program did you use to check for resident spyware?
I hope you disconnected from net before turning off protection!
Process Explorer might help ID what is running. There are a few other
programs that may ID your problem.(HijackThis,Sysclean to name 2)
I have links on my page. http://home.neo.rr.com/manna4u/tools.html
