Inbox not refreshing

When I receive messages I do not see the desktop alert on the botton, nor
does the message get displayed in my Inbox until I manually click the
calendar an then go back to my inbox. Then the message is displayed.

This is typically caused by the blocking of UDP packes fro the Exchange
server. A firewall is usually the culprit.
 
I am not using exchange, just POP3
