inbox doesn't display senders name, but the first name sent to.

I'm using Outlook 2002. My inbox displays the first address the email was
sent to rather than displaying the senders address.
 
You'll have to change your view to see the sender's name:

View > Current View > Customize Current View > Fields > Add the From field
