I have a 60 gig West. dig. HD and a Maxtor 80 gig HD and
win2000 shows them to have a smaller capacity...whats the

Greetings --

Don't you think it might help to tell us what exact sizes _are_
being reported, and by what specific agency?

Anyway:

1 Kb = 1024 bytes
1 Mb = 1024 Kb = 1,048,576 bytes
1 Gb = 1024 Mb = 1,073,741,824 bytes

This means that your "60 Gb" drive is probably being by the OS as
being 58.5 Gb in size, and your "80 Gb" drive is probably being by the
OS as being 78.1 Gb in size.

A common marketing ploy used by hard drive manufacturers to make
their products seem a bit larger than they really are is to assign an
even 1,000,000,000 bytes to the gigabyte.
