Inability to execute downloaded .exe files

B

Bob

After downloading files to my desktop and then double
clicking to run them, for some reason the Windows media
player opens. Next comes an error message which says
"Cannot play back the file. The files have an .exe file
name extension. The properties window indicates that the
file runs using Windows Media Player.

Over time I've downloaded and run many files by simply
double clicking without an application program trying to
open them so I'm baffled about what is going on. Can help
me understand how to execute these files? Thanks.

MVP Kelly has a file that will restore the .exe file association back to the
default value. Go to the following website and look on line 12 for the Fix
..EXE reg file. Click the link to download the registry file and then double
click to merge.
