in wordxp delete key doesn't delete, asks for confirmation first

After clean install of win xp and office xp, in Word highlighting text and
pressing delete doesn't deley, I get asked if I want to delete yes/no. Also,
pages appear with right angle lines in each corner.

Two unconnected problems here:

The delete prompt is caused by a setup option - uncheck both the Word
Perfect options in tools > options > general.
"Margin marks or crop marks appear on each corner of the page when you open
a document in Word 2002 or in Word 2003"
