in word, when I press shift and 2, @ appears. how do i fix it?

When I press shift and 2, @ appears, and when i press shift with the
apostrophe key, " appears. the two keys apprear to have switched around, how
do i put it right?

Pick another shortcut key sequence for whatever macro you're trying to assign
"shift plus 2" to. Shift plus any number enters the symbol above the number.
This is the keyboard setting just like on a manual typewriter.

Shift+2 by default gives @ on US keyboards. I assume you want the
UK/European configuration instead. You'll need to change the location
setting in Windows Control Panel | Regional Options.

I do this regularly with an itchy finger. Left Alt + Shift is the default
hotkey for switching keyboards. Try using it to switch back. You can always
remove keyboards - via the language bar options is one way to access the
facility.
