In Tracking, showing deleted text as strikethrough, not balloons

Have upgraded from earlier version of Word to using Word that comes in Office
XP. Now, when using the tracking feature, added text shows in different
color (red), which is good, but deleted text shows up in balloons in the
margins (not good). I would like deleted text to remain in place and have a
different color (blue) strikethrough. Is there a way to do this? I've
unclicked Show Balloons in the Options menu, per Microsoft help instructions,
and although that eliminated the balloons, it did not replace them with
strikethroughs in deleted text.
Thanks!

Word 2002 unfortunately doesn't give you much control over this. I found
that strikethrough was the default formatting for deleted text when I had
that version, but apparently that was not the case for most users. See

for help in regaining that functionality.
