In powerpoint, are the templates listed in alphabetical order?

We have students sitting assessments and are given instructions on choosing a
certain PowerPoint template. The tutor running the assessment is under the
impression that the templates should be shown (down the right in design view)
in alphabetical order. None of our systems do, and it is apparently slowing
down students as they have to hover over each of the templates to see their
name before selecting it.

Can someone let me know if they should be shown in alphabetical order or
otherwise.

Thanks.

What version of PPT do they have?

In 2003 the templates are not arranged in alphabetical order, before that I
think they were.

The order in 2003 for the standard templates is first the default and then
loosely arranged by colour.

In PPT 2000, when you go to Format | Apply Design Template, it opens a
dialog box with the templates. They're listed there depending on your View
settings, but yeah, I think that's generally alphabetically.

PPT 2002 and 2003 both use the task pane. I think 2002 behaves the same way
as 2003 -- that is, generally by color, not by name. Unfortunately, I don't
have 2002 installed, so I can't check it.

Hi Echo

I did a quick check on an old PC. The colour thing seems to start with 2003
and in 2002 (at least here) its alphabetical. I guess that's the confusion.
I'd always assumed that 2003 and 2002 were pretty similar before I checked.
