In-place file recovery?

I recently had the filesystem damaged by a repartitioning error (using
Acronis). The data seems easy enough to recover with utilities like
GetDataBack, except that the damaged partition contains more data than the
size of the other partition, so copying over is not doable. I'm wondering if
there are any utilities that can simply rebuild the filesystem on-disk. The
way my HD is setup is

C: 10GB (system partition, no problems)
D: 150GB (unreadable filesystem)

I've already done a scan of D with GetDataBack and there's no visible data
loss. But basically I need a utility that is smart enough to rewrite the
filesystem in areas already occupied by the (broken) filesystem, so as not
to overwrite the data. Minor data loss is ok since the files are
replaceable, but I'd just rather not have to go about replacing ALL of the
data.

Which copy of Acronis where you using? Was it Disk Director? If so it
should have tools for recovering lost partitions. Consult the manual for the
program. Another option if you can afford it is to purchase another hard
drive and copy your data over to it. Large drives have come down in price.

pick up a cheap enclosure for $20 and you have an excellent backup device
