Hello

I just bought a new pc and want to reinstall my window XP
profissional on it and maintain my ability to activate it.

Please advise me on steps to take to move it from my old
pc to my new one before I get red of the old one.

Thank you.

Is your Windows XP version an OEM one (for example, did it come
with the computer)? If so, its license ties it permanently to the
first computer it's installed on and you can not do this.

If it's a retail version, simply uninstall it from the old
computer (or format the old computer) and install it on the new
one.

As i recall when I did that, I loaded it on the new computer, called
microsoft for the new number, then killed the old one. I dont know if you
can do that using online activation. Good Luck.

PS: Sure are making it hard arent they? Thats why I recently installed Red
Hat Linux and Openoffice Suite all for free on my newest machine.

Assuming a retail license (OEM licenses are not transferable),
simply remove WinXP from the computer it is currently on, and install
it onto the new one. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you
might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:
