In Format|DWT, why is Update Attached Pages always greyed out?

Both on the DWT Toolbar, and under Format|Dynamic Web Template, the Update
Attached Pages choice (and the Update All Pages choice) are always greyed
out. When I update a DWT and save the changes, I'm asked if I want to
update the x pages that are attached, but x is only those attached pages
that are OPEN at the time I save the changed DWT. There seems to be no way
of automatically updating closed pages, or maybe FP2003 is not aware of
attached closed pages. So - I have to remember to open all the pages
attached to a given DWT, then manually update them, if they were closed when
I updated the DWT. Doesn't make sense to me, or am I missing something?
All help and suggestions very gratefully received.....

Are you work on a server-based web (http) or disk-based web (c:\...)?

I'm working into a server-based web, Thomas, which seems to explain it.
Maybe I should switch when developing? I had an idea that there was quite a
bit of downside to using a disk-based web - components that won't work etc.

Actually in this case, the DWT is only supported for auto updating on disk-based web or a Windows
SharePoint site. The FP 2002 extensions and prior versions of FP are not aware of DWTs.
