A user wants to enter text in a cell beginning with the forward slash
character.
When she does this it simply activates the File menu but does not enter the
/ in the cell.
Cant find this mentioned in keyboard shortcuts or sticky keys or
accessibility.
Does anyone know how to turn this off?

Under Tool menu go to Option and choose Transition tab and change th settings
for Microsoft Office Excel menu key from "\" to Blank.

Hi,

This setting can be found,
Tools > Options > Transitions > MS Office Excel menu Key

Just to add
The reason for / key activating the File Menu, is because, Microsoft Excel
was developed after Lotus 123 was in market. Lotus 123 Dos version had / as
the key to activate the menu. So to faciliate the users who are migrating
from Lotus 123 to Excel, this option was provided.
