In Excel, how can I convert h:mn to mn?

I have successfully subtracted two times and get the answer in hr:mn format.
I wish to convert this back to minutes. How can this be done easily? I
can't get the convert function to recognize the custom format of hr:mn that I
used.

=(A1-B1)*24*60

Format as numeric, not time.

If it's just for display purposes you could use custom format
