In-Cell Drop down does not display

I have set up a data validation from a list set up but can not get the in
cell drop down feature to display when I am in the cell. Any ideas?

Did you check the 'in cell dropdown' option when setting up your list?

Yes I did. I'm very familiar with datavalidation and in-cell drop downs.
There's gotta be a display setting in the spreadsheet somewhere but I can't
locate it.

Check this setting Tools>Options>View tab>Objects

Make sure Hide All is not selected.

You can also try the "Open and repair" option (in xl2003)
on a copy of your file

Sequence:
Do a File > Save as .. (give it a back-up name)
Close the file
Click File > Open
Navigate to and select the "back-up" file in the "Open" dialog
Click on the tiny dropdown to the right of "Open" button

choose "Open and Repair.."
