Impulse HD NTFS Partition disappeared

Hi All

I bought an Impulse 110 GB Mobile Disk a few years ago (don't know where the
installation CD is anymore). It came with two partitions F: and G:. I stored
a lot of valuable data on both and accessed through my home PC (Windows ME).
When I connected the HD to my Office Laptop (Windows NT), F: would appear
without a title and when I tried to explore it the message was "The Disk in
Drive F is not Formatted. Do you want to Format now?". There was no problem
with Partition G:

I upgraded my home PC to Windows NT today and I'm having the same problem
with Partition F: that I did on my laptop although G: is fine as it was on my
laptop.

I checked Device Manager. Volume F appears as Healthy (Active). However,
there is no File System. The file system is Fat32 for Drives C: and D: and
NTFS for Partition G:. Nothing for F:. Do I have to format it and lose years
of data or is there any way to retrieve the information and tranfer it to G:
or the Maxtor I just bought?

All help would be greatly appreciated by this novice user. Ciao....

accessing ntfs/fat32 sholud not be a problem in XP
connect your Maxtor HDD and reboot your computer. Let it boot and try
accessing this way.
If this doesnt work there are a lot of freeware utilities on internet which
can recover data from HDDs with errors mentioned earlier.

Hi Yogi

The G: NTFS and C: D: Fat32 are accessible on the Impulse HDD. There is no
problem with the Maxtor either. The issue is with the F: Impulse partition
which does not appear as NTFS (it comes blank in File System).

I've tried rebooting the PC several times. I guess I'll need a Freeware. Can
you suggest any - what kind of search do I need to do?

Thanks

Hi Yogi

I found a utility called File Scavenger (Version 3.0) and have started the
process of recovery. In future I'll stick with Maxter which is much less
susceptible to crashing because there is no partitioning.

Best Regards
