Hi could any one help me please.
I have a Dell laptop running Visa Home Basic using Windows Mail as a mail
client. I have a pc running XP Professional using Microsoft Outlook as a
mail client. I am trying to transfer all of my personal folders from my pc to
my laptop but I am unable to get Windows Mail to import .pst files. It only
wants to import from within the laptop. I have tried installing Microsoft
Outlook on the Laptop but it will not install correctly thus not reconising
Microsoft Outlook. Has anyone any ideas please?

The only way to transfer data effectively between Windows Mail and Outlook
is to have both on the same PC. Does Vista Mail import Outlook Express
files? If so, use the XP machine to import the Outlook messages with
Outlook Express and then transfer the resulting DBX files to Vista,
importing them into Windows Mail there.

Yes I can transfer my Outlook files to OE6 on my XP machine and yes the Vista
machine will import OE6 files but only if they're on the same machine. OE6 on
Vista will allow me to select a location on the Vista machine to import files
but OE6 on the XP machine will not allow me to export its files to a selected
destination, only directly to Microsoft Outlook again. Where do I find the
OE6 mail files on my XP machine? Perhaps I can transfer this file to the
Vista machine and get OE6 to pick it up from this location?

Open Outlook Express. Tools/Options/Maintenance/Message Store tab will
tell you the location. Tab to the path and then Control + C will copy
the path. Close Outlook Express. Make sure that your Windows Explorer is
set to show hidden files. Paste the path into Windows Explorer's address
field and hit Enter.

Copy them into a folder and then use a flash disk to take them to the
Vista machine. If you use a CD or DVD, make sure you take the Read Only
off the files before attempting to import them into Windows Mail.
