You have two choices: 1. Install Outlook on your Vista computer,
preferably version 2003 or later. Versions 2000 and 2002 will also
run under Vista, but with problems. Windows Mail needs to use
part of Outlook to be able to understand .pst files. Some, but not
all, versions of Microsoft Office include Outlook:

2. Import the .pst file into Outlook Express on an older computer
that also has Outlook installed. Then, import from Outlook Express
to Windows Mail:

Bring along the .wab file if you want your old contacts. After you copy the
files to a directory on the hard drive of your Vista computer, make sure the
copies are read-write instead of readonly before you import them into
Windows Mail.

If this import does not bring in your old contacts, start Windows Mail, then
click Tools, then Windows Contacts, then Import, then Windows Address
Book File (Outlook Express contacts), then Import, then find the .wab file
and click on it, then click on Close, then close the Contacts window.

I am also waiting with baited breath for a real answer to Jennifer's
question.
I too just bought a computer with Vista, and among my many disappointments,
losing all of my Outlook (not Outlook Express) messages is one of them.
We are not asking to move data between one Outlook and another, we want to
transfer the data to the new windows.vista.mail and are trying to learn how.
I opened the link Peter provided and it has no information regarding this
task

Never export/import to transfer data between one Outlook and another.
Instead, simple copy the original PST.It will cause corruption See this:
