Importing Outlook Express folders from old computer

T

Ted Cremer

Hi All,

My dell laptop crashed. I was able to salvage some of the
dbx files containg my old e-mails. I recovered the files
from the old hard drive which I set up as a slave drive.
These files were not "exported" but copied from one drive
to another.

I need to find out how to get ALL of my foilders to
import back into my current working version of outlook
express or outlook. When I import from my backup, it only
reads the standard folders (ie inbox, sent, drafts, etc).
I want to collect my personal folders as well. There has
to be a way to get the current version of outlook express
to look for other folders outside of the traditional ones.

HELP!!!!

It sounds as though you did not include Folders.dbx in your backup. You
will have to use a workaround to import the folders.

What you need to do is copy the old folders to your hard disc and remove
the "read only" attribute. Put them in a folder on your desktop for ease
of use. Then open OE and create a folder with the exact same name of one
of the old folders. Move any old message into this folder. Go to
Tools>options>maintenance>store folder and write down the location
noted. Close OE and open Windows Explorer. MOVE (not copy) the correct
old folder into the store location you noted. Windows will ask if you
want to overwrite, say yes. Your old folder will now appear in OE and
all should be well.
Do the above for each of your old folders.

Ted, in future please post results to the same thread so that all may
benefit, and not by private email. Thanks. But glad all is now well!
