Importing files into Movie Maker

G

Guest

I have converted VHS tapes to DVD using a VCR/DVD Recorder.
The file types created on the DVD are (IFO, VOB,BUP).
These are not compatible with movie maker.
Has anyone else ever run into this problem and found a solution

I don't know about WMM, but a lot of apps will see a VOB if you just
change the extension to ".mpg".

VOB isn’t listed as one of the importable types. If renaming to mpeg doesn’t
work you might have to convert to avi, mpeg, or wmv first. Then import the
converted file.

(Funny thing is, a few builds ago someone said they were able to import a
VOB straight from DVD into Movie Maker. Seems unlikely, but that’s what they
said).

My last post was bugging me after I sent it, and I just realized why. The
reason you can’t import a VOB is mainly because VOB files don’t show up in
the Import dialog box. If you rename to mpeg it will show up. But it still
won’t import if you don’t have a DVD Decoder installed. Once you have a DVD
Decoder installed, it should import.

Funny thing is, you don’t really have to install the DVD Decoder in Vista. I
installed Intervideo’s XP DVD decoder in XP (on the same machine) and it
works in Vista.
