Importing Favorites from Favorites folder

Guest

Hi there,

My old computer doesn't start anymore, but hard drive is OK. So I put my old
hard drive in a new computer as a secondary hard drive. Than I copied my
Favorites folder to a new hard drive (with Win XP and IE6.0), but it doesn't
work. How can I copy Favorites not from bookmark.html?

Hi Oleg :)

The the following:

#1. Find the folder where the old Favorites are located
View>Select All>Right click>select Copy
Paste them into the new folder
They should not appear in the Favorites when you open IE

#2. First make a backup copy of the old Favorites folder, then copy all the
contents of the old Folder to the new one. Then close the new Folder,
highlight it, don't open it, then Right-drag this folder to the location you
want to use it instead, i.e., your C:\Documents and
Settings\{yourusername]\My
Documents" folder and then choose Move here from the menu that pops up when
you drop the folder. IF it asks if you want to replace the old Folder say
yes. If it won't let you replace the folder, then delete the old folder and
do the Right drag process again and this time it sould let you move it. IE
will then automatically reset all the references to that new location, and
all the Favorites should appear in your Favorites menu in IE.

#3. If the above methods do not work, then you may have to make manual
changes in the Registry to change the default location of the Favorites by
making an adjustment in the Register using the methods below. However, make
sure you back it up the Registry before you make any changes.

Your favorites folder may be corrupt or damaged. Try createing a new one
with the instructions here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#favorites

Change the Location of System and Special Folders
http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/107/

You need to edit the registry. See "Description of the Microsoft Windows
registry" article:

Hope this helps :)

Were/Are either machine running WinXP SP2?

Did you copy the /contents/ of the Favorites folder to the Favorites folder
on the new machine and overwrite the existing data in it?

Were you logged on as Administrator?
