importing/exporting .dbf files

I am running Access 2003 in Win XP (SP2) and am unable to import or export
Dbase files (.dbf; all versions) into new and existing MS Access databases.
The behavior is identical for import and export attemps: the program stops
running. In the Event Viewer after this occurs, the following messages are
generated:
1) "wuauclt (208) The database engine stopped."
and
2) "wuaueng.dll (208) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine stopped the
instance (0)"

I am unable to locate any assistance in MS KB or elsewhere and using Excel
as a workaround (imports work fine here) is not an option because some dbf
files I will be using have more than 65K records.

Thanks.

Try linking to the dbf files rather than importing them. I have done this
with 2000, but not 2003 - don't know if it would be different. I would try
this:
1. create a table in your app with the same fields and formats as the dbf
file.
2. link to the dbf file.
3. Use a query or code to read the data from the dbf and load it into your
table.

good luck

Cindy,

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, neither worked. I'm truly at a loss as
to how to resolve this issue short of going back to Access 97 and that's not
an option.

DSR.
