Importing Data Base

I’m trying to import a database from Excel. When I tried “Get External
Dataâ€, either New or Existing Table, I get an error has occurred message with
no details. When I try to cut and paste the data, I get a “The text is too
long to be edited†message. Cells have only dates, currency, and short text.
I have made sure there is no protection or formulas. Anybody have a
suggestion? I am using Office 2003. Thanks
